Maritime Security (MARSEC) Overview

This course is designed for those who need to understand the new Maritime Security Transportation Act requirement, with a focus on maritime security assessments and planning.

This class will enhance maritime security through heightened awareness of:

  • Knowledge of international maritime security policy, and the responsibilities of governments, companies, and designated persons;
  • Knowledge of procedures to be employed in reporting security incidents;
  • Knowledge of maritime security levels and corresponding security measures aboard ship and in the facility environment;
  • Knowledge of security-related contingency plans;
  • Knowledge of basic maritime security terms and definitions;
  • Knowledge of techniques used to circumvent security measures;
  • Recognition of persons who pose a potential threat to security;
  • Recognition of weapons, dangerous substances, and devices;
  • Knowledge of handling sensitive security communications and material;
  • Knowledge of training, drill, and exercise requirements
