AWR 144: Port and Vessel Security
AWR 144: Port and Vessel Security for Public Safety and Maritime Personnel is an 8-hour awareness level training course designed to educate rural public safety and maritime personnel in rural maritime jurisdictions who may respond to incidents in those jurisdictions. This course will assist the public safety community and maritime stakeholders in understanding the unique and complex security needs of maritime facilities and vessel.

Topics to be discussed during the course include:
  • Characteristics of the U.S. Maritime Transportation System (MTS)
  • Common maritime terminology
  • Threats to the MTS in rural jurisdictions including natural and human-made
  • Maritime security levels and regulations
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Maritime environment safety issues
  • Homeport and Area Maritime Security Committee resources
Who Should Attend
The primary audience for AWR 144 includes: rural first responders - specifically law enforcement, fire, emergency medical services, and emergency management agency, local emergency planners (including industry), public officials, and tribal agencies as well as private maritime community stakeholders.

DHS Approval Means Free Training for Qualified Jurisdictions
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has approved the AWR 144 course which allows each participant to receive a Certificate of Completion. In addition, DHS approval means that AWR 144 can be delivered tuition free to qualified jurisdictions.
